Dear WWW... HAPPY NEW YEAR! or something. How you been? I've been OK. Sorry I haven't been in contact all that often. Just pluggin' away like I usually do. The new year feels ripe with possibilities, though. I've got a plethora of projects in the works. Just poke around the site and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, I guess I better get back to the grind. Take care and we'll catch up some more later. Peace!

<11/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a note that PROJECT: ROMANTIC will be appearing at your Local Comic Shop this Wednesday, 11/08/06. xoxo - CP

<10/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, SPX was good. I had a few Paul Pope items left over from the show, so I thought I might give a webstore a try. Because there might be questions about the ashcan, here are the details... It includes a 4 page essay that will be in the PULPHOPE book, a unpublished THB story (12 pages), which WON’T be in the book, and a unpublished comic (7 pages) that will have a few pages appear in the book. Check out the purchase page, if you are so inclined.

Also, I've been uploading some photos to Flickr, so check them out if you are so inclined.

And... to be filed under "T" for toot-toot, I constructed a list of all the nominations and winafications that I could think of.

<09/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow. It's really been two months since I've posted any news? Yikes! Well, guess I've just been going with the flow. Let's see, we've been hard at work on getting Romantic done. Should be on the boat soonish. We've also attended a few of our favorite cons, and we have one more before the year is over... yep, SPX. I've also decided to try some experiments going forward in the future. Nothing drastic, just trying to get the name out there a bit more. Oh.. and I've updated a few of the pages on this site. Probably the most surprising thing is that a few books have gone out of print. The Collected Sequential and Bumperboy Loses His Marbles are both gone now. Thanks for helping to make that happen. Oh.. and yes, we're hard at work on the Paul Pope book. As you can guess, it's going to be late.

<07/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And then there were three. Just uploaded the Diamond order codes for Romantic. Look for some previews in the coming weeks to wet your apper-tights. And to quote some movie.. "game over, man." (Anyone who has edited an antho will know what I mean.. or at leats I think will.)

<07/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those keen eyes that noticed, yes, there was a mistake on the Paul Pope art book info. The entire book is FOUR colors and not one, as the description noted. Don't worry, the webmaster is being punished as we speak.

<06/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boy... You sure can tell Summer is here. Don't know why, but I hadn't updated the books section to reflect the Paul Pope book. Info is there now.

<06/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where did May go? I guess I made most of my announcemnts over on the forum. So.. catchup time!

The new Skyscrapers of the Midwest (#3) hit stores two weeks ago. To celebrate, we'll be heading up to NYC
and attending the MoCCA Art Fest with Mr. Josh Cotter. Yay!

We've been hard at work on both PROJECT: ROMANTIC and the Paul Pope art book. More details soon.

We'll also be heading down to Charlotte at the end of the month to help HEROES celebrate their 25th anniversary
of having swell shows. Why not make the trip?

And.. we just updated our links section. If you see an error, just lmk... and thanks.

"Bumperboy is a fun, all-ages minicomic I first encountered at the Alternative Press Expo. It has a real innocent feel, but is also engaging with a keen sense of design backing the whole thing up. Highly recommended!" -Dan Shahin, Hijinx Comics

"Bumperboy is a wonderful tale for all ages...Bumperboy was one of my favorite finds at APE this year." -Adrienne Rappaport, Sequential Tart

“You show me someone who wouldn't enjoy the adventures of Bumperboy, and I'll show you someone who needs a good punch in the face!” – Guy LeCharles Gonzalez, Buzzscope

“There’s only one word for this comic: adorable.” – Will Moss, Nashville City Paper

“I found myself smiling the whole way through the book, and I'd be surprised if it was possible to get to the end without doing so. I'll definitely be on the lookout for whatever Huey does next.” – Greg McElhaton, I-Comics

<03/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And while I'm here... we might as well let this cat out of the bag. Yowza!

<03/2006>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew. It's been busy around ye' ol' House. Sorry I haven't posted for a while. Here's a few tidbits of what's been going on... We've been wrapping up our FREE COMIC BOOK DAY COMIC. It's looking pretty nice. We proofed SUPERIOR SHOWCASE #1 the other day. It is also a nice little comical thingy. It should be out the beginning of next month. We finalized a contract on a soon to be announced new book. Stay tuned! Shipped out more copies of PROCESS RECESS. They sell like the proverbial bagel. I mean hotcake! Worked up the press packet for NOBEL BOY. I've been told the book turned out very nice. I should see copies in a few weeks, and hopefully everyone will see copies the beginning of next month. Fun stuff, no?

<01/2006>

Also, Process Recess is going back to print. A second edition should be available in two months or so.

<10/2005>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OCTOBER, 2005. Scott Morse is pleased to announce the birth of RED WINDOW, a new self-publishing venture. Through new projects including original graphic novels, art books, clothing, and films, RED WINDOW is the venue through which Morse will continue to grow as a storyteller and artist, utilizing the finest production values available.

"I've been publishing my work through a myriad of incredible publishing houses over the past few years, but certain projects that I'm in the process of creating have become incredibly personal endeavors, and have grown to need extra attention," states Morse. "These projects, including autobiographical stories, art books, and film projects, are things that I want presented through very specific means. I'm letting each one dictate production values, putting in the extra effort and care to ensure that they're offered to audiences as something unique."

Helping Morse realize these projects to their full potential is award-winning designer and publisher Chris Pitzer, of AdHOUSE BOOKS, who will not only serve as designer and consultant, but as distributor of RED WINDOW's catalogue of products. "Chris Pitzer is more passionate about design and storytelling than most anyone I've ever had the pleasure of working with, " states Morse. "His talents are a boon to my work through RED WINDOW, and I couldn't be happier with the work we're producing."

“It’s been a great pleasure to work with Scott Morse over the years... From his sell-out hit SOUTHPAW, to his thoughts on heroes with SUPERIOR,” said Pitzer “I think self-publishing is the next logical step for him to take, and I’m more than happy to make suggestions along the way.”

The pipeline of products for 2006 includes the Red Window debut graphic novel NOBLE BOY, a biographical "board book" about animation design pioneer and legend Maurice Noble, who trained Morse with a small group of hand-picked artists at Chuck Jones Film Productions, Turner, Warner Bros., and other studios. Morse says, "Maurice was a playful, energetic character, a huge influence on not only my work, but who I am as a person. NOBLE BOY is the long-overdue first step in introducing Maurice to the masses as a person. You've all seen his work, from SNOW WHITE to DUCK DOGERS to HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS...now, it's time you learn about this orchestrator of the films you grew up loving." NOBLE BOY will be offered as a 32-page, full color board book, each page thick and meaty with rhyming text and art, and will retail for $12.95.

Future RED WINDOW projects include:

*TIGER!TIGER!TIGER!, the massive expansion of the sell-out AdHouse offering SOUTHPAW.
*ALONG THESE FIERY PATHS, a hardcover, fully painted autobiography.
*BANJOJOE, a live-action short film project
*CHARACTER STUDY, a collection of sketchbook ink drawings mixed with prose text.
*and more to be announced soon.

While RED WINDOW will solely produce the work of Morse, he'll also continue to produce work with outside publishers on a project-to-project basis. "RED WINDOW is for my personal work, for stories and art that I need to oversee on all levels, " assures Morse. "You'll see my name pop up at other publishers and on other films, as well, I guarantee."

I forgot to post this information here. AdHouse will be attending the big ol' San Diego Comic-Con this month. Actually, next week. Look for us at booth 1619, across from Last Gasp. We'll have some new neat things like...

<6/2005>

It's been a long time coming, but we're happy to announce that when the next Previews catalog drops you can go into your LCS (Local Comic Shop) and order the brand new Gigantic First Issue of Zack Soto's new series: The Secret Voice. Yeah, buddy!

<6/2005>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well.. when you're good you're good. It seems that three of our best sellers have gone "out of print." By that, we've gotten to a very low quantity of books. So, I've made the call to keep a few boxes to take to the remainder of shows that we will be attending throughout the year. That translates into you "might" not be able to order these books online or through a store. We apologize for this, but we base our print run on the amount of initial orders we receive through the catalogs. Anyway, the books that have gone OOP are: Project: Telstar, Project: Superior and Process Recess. The anthologies will probably never be reprinted (but never say never!). Recess may find life again, but that is more or less for James to decide and there are a bunch of details to be ironed out, too. Thanks for making those books popular!

<5/2005>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AdHouse Inks @ SPX!

AdHouse Books is excited to announce their plans to publish two new series by two unique creators who attended this year's SPX show:

The Secret Voice by Zack Soto, and Zig Zag by J. Chris Campbell.

If the name Zack Soto sounds familiar, it's because he edits and contributes to the Ignatz award-winning anthology Study Group 12. Zack's comics and illustrations have also appeared in Hi-Horse Omnibus, Kramers Ergot, and the backcover to this year's SPX anthology. The Secret Voice will be Mr. Soto's first effort into the realm of extended sequential art.

J. Chris Campbell has been cranking out his sequential form of hilarity for some years now. Under the imprint of Wide Awake Press, Mr. Campbell has produced a number of high-production pamphlets that will tickle your funny bone, and other parts. His book, Zig Zag, will be his own anthology, a virtual cornucopia of yuck-yucks!

Chris Pitzer, publisher of AdHouse Books had this to say, "While it might seem strange to have such different creators sign on to work with AdHouse, they really are similar in one regard: they have their own distinct voice... and, they make great comics. OK, I guess that's two reasons."

Look for The Secret Voice and Zig Zag in Spring and Summer of 2005.

AdHouse Books announces their plans to publish Skyscrapers of the Midwest by Josh Cotter.

Capturing the rural solitude and sadness of a land full of anthropomorphic country cats, Skyscrapers of the Midwest hits a nerve that would make a grown man cry. With stories of childhood trauma and exploration, this comic gives voice to a new creator within our field.
A creator that was awarded the 2004 Isotope Award for Excellence in Mini-Comics.

James Sime of the Isotope comic store had this to say about AdHouse and Skyscrapers, "For me, personally, this has been the best news of all of 2004. Josh's work is a thing of beauty and without a doubt, Skyscrapers of the Midwest is one of the best comic books I've read all year long."

Look for the first issue of Skyscrapers of the Midwest by AdHouse Books in December. This issue will collect the first two issues of the almost out-of-print mini-comic into standard comic format. The second issue is planned for some time next year.

What could possibly be cooler than space & robots? How about SUPER HEROES? Or should I say PROJECT: SUPERIOR. (Legal disclaimer: Say "SUPERIOR" out loud, it kind of sounds like superhero!) Chris Pitzer has decided to re-visit the "project" anthology and has challenged some of his favorite indy comics and alternative artist creators to work within this theme. A peak at who is planning on playing: Tim Biskup, Jeffrey Brown, Farel Dalrymple, Dean Haspiel, Scott Morse and Paul Pope (and many, many more!). Planned for this winter, this will make stuffing those stockings easy.

Most great artists keep a sketchbook. That's how they get good. Eisner-nominated cover artist illustrator James Jean is good, and he's got a LOT of sketchbooks. PROCESS RECESS collects the art of James Jean. From his travelogue-sketchbooks of Vienna, London, New York, LA and Taiwan to his finished illustrations and paintings we get to see a side of the artist that most have not seen. James’ artwork blends media such as watercolor, oils, computer work, and sketching — all of which is collected here in a beautiful hardcover format.

• My! There's a lot of news this month. Here's our latest idea...

AdHouse Goes PINK in August!

AdHouse Books is proud to introduce its new limited mini-sketchbook series PINK.

PINK will strive to straddle the border of "Low" and "High" art with each artist featured.

PINK’s limited nature will have the print run set to the number of orders received (plus copies for the creator and publisher) and will not go back to press.

Each issue of PINK will come encased within a pink plastic envelope and contain an added bonus, such as a sticker, coaster, and maybe (gasp) a piece of gum.

The first issue debuts with the prolific Scott Morse, who has decided to share his love of monsters. From Bigfoot to evil scientists, you will find all types of creatures within these pages… and some in color! Also includes a sticker!

• Here's a press release about our new comic division...

2004 is the year that AdHouse decided they were spineless.

After two years of creating books with spines (aka trade paperbacks), AdHouse has made the decision to publish in the traditional comic book format (aka "floppies", "pamphlets" or "comics").

Current plans are to have three saddle-stitched comics debut within the year.

Those comics are:

- The AdHouse Books FREE Comic Book Day Comic Book.
A 32-page themed comic with stories by Joel Priddy and Scott Morse.

- Return of the Elephant by Paul Hornshchemeier.
A 48-page comic that tells an eerily quiet story of a solitary man and the ulterior motives involved in a visit from a longtime friend of the family.

- One Step After Another by Fermin Solis.
A 40-page comic imported from the alternative comics movement happening in Spain.

When asked about this format decision, publisher Chris Pitzer elaborated, "Although this goes against the current industry trends, the decision to do "traditional" comics was an easy one. First and foremost was the chance to work with the talented creators involved with these projects."

• AdHouse Books is pleased to announce having received Domtar Paper's Kudos Award of Excellence for the book Project: Telstar.

Chris Pitzer, AdHouse publisher was "...as excited as I could be. The fact that an anthology of sequential art was selected for what is traditionally a corporate brochure or annual report design contest makes me feel very good."

“Determining the best of the best among so many impressive print pieces was not easy,” said Gary Dow, director of specification for Domtar. “This year’s winners blended exceptional design and printing technique with optimal paper selection to powerfully reinforce their messages.”

"Speaking of paper selection," Pitzer added, "Project: Telstar was printed on Domtar's Luna Matte, which continued the space theme perfectly."

A four-member judging panel evaluated hundreds of entries, all printed on Domtar papers, for originality, creativity, printing technique, paper appropriateness, and overall communication effectiveness. This year’s judges included Kendal Liddle of Richter 7, Mike Richards of Richards & Swensen, Josh Jenkins of Publicis Dialog and Mark Patterson of Nu Skin Enterprises.

+++

AdHouse Books is pleased to announce their plans to publish the Scott Morse Graphic Novel SOUTHPAW.

SOUTHPAW is a robot fighting tiger whose introduction actually takes place in the pages of the spacial-robotic anthology PROJECT: TELSTAR (in stores 6/25/03!). From the few panels that we see in Telstar, we learn that Southpaw is one bad cat. He doesn't follow instructions very well, and he can take a robot fighter down in the first round!

From the publisher, Chris Pitzer:
"When Morse asked me if I was interested in publishing the FULL story of Southpaw, of course I said YES! I've been a big fan of Scott's work for as long as I can remember. I actually remember meeting him at the 97' SPX. It's great to be associated with such a talented, prolific artist."

From the creator, Scott Morse:
"I love throwing special projects out there to surprise people. With SOUTHPAW, I drew on my love of Hemingway's short stories and film noir to give this little tiger a run for his money. SOUTHPAW isn't just about knocking the screws of a few robots loose, it's about perseverance and doing the right thing, even if you have to do a few wrong things in the process."

AdHouse plans for SOUTHPAW to be the first of three books that will tell the "tale" of an animal's exploits. All three books will be designed and formatted to compliment each other. These books might be considered a distant cousin to the big-little books. Each page will have only one panel, so that the reader can focus on the detail of each picture.

SOUTHPAW by Scott Morse
A 6" x 6" 128 page softcover graphic novel
The interiors will be printed with a non-black one color spot ink.
The cover will be printed in four color with end flaps to extend the art.
Price: $9.95

ISBN: 0-9721794-4-5
