Sky in Stores!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Skyscrapers of the Midwest appears in stores this week.

So, that would be either Wednesday (if you live in Canada) or Thursday (if you live in the US of A.) That also means you can purchase your own copy at the AdHouse store the morning of Thursday. And as mentioned before, we’ll even throw in a few extras while supplies last. Things like a bookmark, which you won’t actually need for this book, since we got one of those fancy ribbons installed.

In other news, the guys over at Indie Spinner Rack wanted to talk to me about distribution, so I said sure. You can go listen, if you are so inclined. They talk to Andrew Neal of Chapel Hill Comics before me, and he is quite the articulate shop owner. Me? Not so much. (articulate that is!)

We’re hard at work on some our fancy things we’ll be bringing with us to MoCCA. Stay tuned for details.

Cotter at the PW & Chao Nom

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Mistah Cottah just had an interview go live at the Publisher’s Weekly.

He also created that swell image for a bookmark we just got back from the printer yesterday.

Believe it or not, SKYSCRAPERS should be in stores really soon. If I asked my 8ball, it would probably say 5/28. But y’know.. an 8ball can be wrong sometimes. And once the book is in stores, it will also be available at our store, too. And all orders placed with us will get the swanky bookmark above, an exlibris sticker and postcard! (while supplies last!)

In other adnews, we just found out that Fred Chao is ALSO nominated for the Russ Manning Award this year. That is FIVE nominations for him and JOHNNY HIRO! That is uberfantastic. Congrats Fred!

Fred and I are working on a limited S&N print, too. We’ll post details as soon as the print is done. Until then, gaze at the beauty of it!

Our Loss.

And by “our” I mean the whole of the comic industry.

As reported and posted at other places already, Rory Root, the man behind Comic Relief passed away yesterday.

I wasn’t his best friend, or a contemporary, but he treated me as one. Whether it was at APE or SDCC, seeing Rory there just made you feel good. Like things were OK, and that we were doing something right. His suggestions I always took to heart, whether it was a dining establishment, or bringing a book back into print.

As someone has said, our little universe has just gotten smaller, and it makes me sad. I’ll miss you Rory. Thanks for everything.

Pulphope wins Richmond Show Silver

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

AdHouse Books is pleased to announce the win of a Silver Award for Design at the 2007 Richmond Show for the publication PULPHOPE by Paul Pope.

“We were very excited to hear about the win,” says publisher/designer Chris Pitzer. “Richmond is a city that is FULL of big creative agencies like Martin, Elevation and Work Labs. To be recognized for work that could be considered part of that community is very rewarding.”

The awards are sponsored by the Richmond Ad Club and were handed out at a gala event on April 18th, 2008 at the Virginia Historical Society.

In other award news…

This is the first year that an Eisner Award vote can be cast online. Who can vote? Any professional working in the comics industry, whether as a creator (writer, artist, cartoonist, colorist, letterer), a publisher or editor, or a retailer (comics store owner or manager).

I voted and it took me less than two minutes. And since this IS the AdHouse blog, a gentle reminder of the AdHouse associated nominations:

Thank you.

Postcard from the Edge

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Well, not really.

I was rummaging through one of the many “Ark” boxes at HQ last week, and stumbled upon a postcard written to me by Eric Reynolds. Since ER has been scanning and posting some of his sketches of late, I thought I’d scan and post the postcard he sent. Rather nice I thought. I don’t remember giving (or sending) a PC#5 to him, let alone what was in that issue.

And since we’re talking sketchbooks, here’s possibly my favorite I’ve completed.

And if you are the type of comic reader who places orders at your LCS, then just a reminder that you probably should have already told them you were interested in SUPERIOR SHOWCASE #3 (that’s Diamond Code: APR083497). Why? Because it has way cool stories like these inside:

And why not end with a quote from Tim McGraw “We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere.”

Y’all be good…. Oh.. and almost forgot.. get your FREE Comic Book Day on this Saturday, if you are so inclined. If you don’t hit a LCS, then you can download a FREE one from our buddies at WAP.
