FCHS Preview via Comics by comiXology

Friday, August 28th, 2009

New York (MobilityNewswire) August 26, 2009

For the first time, a comic book publisher will be offering a free digital preview of its soon-to-be-released graphic novel through the Comics by comiXology app for iPhone and iPod touch devices. AdHouse Books will be pre-releasing the first “issue” of FCHS, a comic book series described as “Archie meets 90210,” through the Comics by comiXology app during the Diamond pre-ordering period, and the Diamond pre-order number (SEP09 0568) will be prominent in the app. Comics by comiXology’s retailer locator will enable customers to contact local retailers from within the app itself to order the comic.

“We enjoy our close relationships with indie publishers, and believe our Comics by comiXology app is the ideal way for them to increase the exposure to their titles that may otherwise not receive the attention they deserve, while increasing sales of the print editions once they become available,” said David Steinberger, CEO of Iconology, creator of the Comics by comiXology app.

FCHS is available today for Comics by comiXology, while the print edition will hit retail stores in November.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” said FCHS co-creator, Vito Delsante. “A lot of folks didn’t get to see the Free Comic Book Day comic, and this is a perfect opportunity for those folks to not only read that, but 12 extra pages from the first chapter!”

“I welcome the opportunity to work with Comixology in a new way to spread the advance word about our upcoming Fall release of FCHS,” says Chris Pitzer, publisher of AdHouse Books. “I think it is a win for everyone involved from the creators, to the publisher, to the distributor, to the retailer and ultimately, to the comic reader.”

The Comics by comiXology App is available, including over 30 free comics, for $0.99 from the App Store. Retailers can pre-order FCHS via Diamond Order Code: SEP09 0568

Peoples keep talking about the AdBooks:

Geekvs.Geek on the Hiro: “Sound silly? Or absurd? Sure. You bet. There’s plenty of absurdity and silliness going around in Johnny Hiro. But there’s also a lot of real things going on.”

The WP on Remake: “A good one, I think.”

Chris Mautner on the trifecta:  “The indie/alt-comix crowd can tend to dismiss the superhero genre, but it can be a solid jumping off point for exploring thematic alleys and byways that more traditional cape and tights publishers wouldn’t even consider. Three recent books from AdHouse — Remake, Ace-Face and Johnny Hiro — all use superheroes, or heroism at any rate, as their starting point but each end up with their own unique take on the subject matter.”

NPR on The Greatest American Hiro: “Chao revels in the mix of the larger-than-life and the precisely life-sized: that giant lizard wrecks the wall of Johnny’s apartment, leaving him with a whopping repair bill.”

Pope Hats #1
by Ethan Rilly.
Distributed by AdHouse Books

Pope Hats follows the trials of a young woman named Frances Scarland, whose social circle mainly consists of an alcoholic actress and an inept ghost named Saarsgard. The comic is an engaging slice-of-life story about young people navigating their own daily shortcomings.

Pope Hats was the winner of a 2008 Xeric Foundation Grant. An earlier mini-comic version of the story was shortlisted for the 2008 Doug Wright Awards in the category of Best Emerging Talent. “Pope Hats by Ethan Rilly is the most impressive debut comic I’ve seen in years. The work has that deceptive quality of ease about it—the characters breeze across the page with sparkling dialogue and wonderfully observed gestures.”

Dog Days…

Monday, August 17th, 2009

…of summer. Somewhere between the hustle & bustle of regular summer, and the cool refreshing relaxation of fall.

It’s within these days of dogs that we at AdHouse find ourselves in a lull. A limbo of sorts. Not much going on, but preparing for the onslaught of the Jeaness. So, that’s why I haven’t posted much on this here spot. But we will be posting later this week, as we hope to have the Diamond codes for our latest offerings.

Until then, take care, be well, and pet a pooch.

Happy Boni Day

Today’s my Mom’s birthday.

Without her, there’d be no me, and thus, no AdHouse.

So, Happy Day Mom.
